Successful closure for the first edition of the Martinique Rhum Awards
First time the Martinique Rhum Awards are held. Rewarding the excellence of what is the most famous export of the department of the French Caribbean and what a successful closing.
Last Saturday the jury of the Martinique Rhum Awards presented the awards to the best rum brands. Apart from judges from Martinique and Guadeloupe, other countries such as the United States, Germany, Canada and Belgium participated in the decision. A total of 10 jurys participated.
Among the judges, Alexandre Vingtier, from France and editor in chief of Rumporter magazine. The specialist highlighted the importance and quality of organic rums “bio”, participants in the contest, whether or not AOC. Obligations such as in the fermentation and acidification method lead to a corpulent and atypical rum.
All tastings were blind. But both taste and visual quality were also taken into account.
From July 4th to July 7th, in different bars such as Petibonum (organizer), Ti Sable, Le Sunset, L’habitation Depaz, La Suite Villa and Case Thaï, the best agricultural rums of Martinique were decided. The Rum Embassy was also part of the organization of the festival.
And the Winners are…
The maximum winner was the HSE XO rum from Martinique, for its agricultural rum Rhum Agricole Extra Vieux, an extra aged rum. It was followed by La Mauny with its white rum for the best 55-degree rum; Rhum Dillon for the best rum between the ages of 3 and 6; and the boutique distillery A1710 Renaissance with a white rum for the non-AOC category, and best molasses rum for 3-12 years.
Don’t drink and drive. Enjoy responsibly.
