Our Spirits Hunters’ Cocktail of the week with a Twist brings a herbal touch to the Strawberry Daiquiri with basil.

The Daiquiri’s creation, born around the 20tch century, is credited to Jennings Stockton Cox, an American engineer. The cocktail, closely related to the Canchanchara, also finds its origins in Cuba, where Cox and his team worked in the Sierra Maestra Mountains, south-eastern shore of Cuba. It is there where the small town of Daiquirí lies. During his stay there, Cox created the classic drink when he ran out of gin while hosting some American guests. At the moment it seemed right for Cox to mix lime, sugar and the only alcohol he had in hand: rum.

Since the Daiquiri was recreated into various versions: Santa Marta Daquirí, Pineapple Daiquirí, Santiago Daiquirí, Daiquirí Elixir, Aged Honey Daiquirí… and Strawberry Daiquirí! Which we’re giving a little twist with basil in our Cocktail of the week.
