It has been more than a year since Suntory announced the first 3 expressions of their experimental series “Essence of Suntory“.
Each of the bottles is extremely experimental. Yamazaki Peated Malt contains smoke and peat, which is quite unique for Yamazaki whisky. The Hakushu Rye Type has a rate of 57% ABV aged for four years. And for the very first time, the Suntory grain chita distillery has released a Wine Cask Finish aged for 16 years.
The first cycle of Essence of Suntory was one of the most exciting releases of 2018. Now it is the turn of the series of three bottles that is eagerly awaited. They are entirely focused on varieties from Spain and have different types of oak, aromas and assets.
The Yamazaki distillery is very well known for its rigorous process of selecting sherry barrels from Spain. Indeed, the master distiller, in person, travels to Spain to select the trees for the future Yamazaki whisky. It is thanks to their meticulous selection process that the 2013 Yamazaki Sherry Cask was named the best whisky in the world several years ago. Nowadays, their sherry-aged expressions are popular all over the world.
