A rare bottle of Moutai at auction for £3000

Valued between £2800 and £3000 the exceptionally rare bottle of the Chinese spirit will be auctioned next weekend at the Elstob & Elstob auction house.

The bottle of baijiu Moutai Rare Breed is 20 years old. What is its history? Towards 2011, the Kweichow Moutai group launched this baijiu bottle as part of a special edition launch. A bottle much sought after by all collectors, knowing that it is also the number 2 brand in value in the world and the leading luxury brand in China.

Elstbon & Elstob’s wine and spirits expert – with more than 25 years of experience and former Bonham’s and Sotheby’s – Peter Hopkins explains: “This particular bottle of Baijiu made by Kweichow Moutai is almost impossible to find in the open market, and is destined to be of considerable interest to drink collectors and connoisseurs around the world“.

According to Peter, these types of spirits bottles are considered a good investment and are often seen as an alternative purchase to stocks and bonds or other traditional components of a financial portfolio.
