Would you have imagined it? Beer seems to be more effective than paracetamol for headaches. But beware, alcohol abuse is dangerous for the head;).

According to a study in Great Britain, two pints of beer would help you fight a headache. The University of Greenwich published in the May issue of the Journal of Pain that two pints of beer would be more effective than paracetamol.

The study states that a blood alcohol level of 0.08% is sufficient to relieve a quarter of headaches. In other words, higher blood alcohol levels are associated with greater analgesia. However, during the study, alcohol was found to cause a slight increase in the pain threshold. In addition, the study does not indicate that alcohol is good for your health.

The Independent interviewed Dr. Trevor Thompson, who led the study. “The results suggest that alcohol is an effective analgesic that clinically reduces the severity of pain. With only 0.08% alcohol in the blood, the intensity of pain decreases from moderate to severe. ”

A possible solution / A probable risk

Studies are underway to better understand the use of alcohol as an analgesic. This, however, with the necessary caution. Researchers continue to focus on understanding alcoholism as a result of this study and how alcohol is used to avoid pain and whether it actually affects brain receptors or reduces anxiety.

The use of alcohol as an analgesic represents a possible solution for new alternatives to typical analgesics. Dr. Thompson explains, “If we can make a drug without the harmful side effects, then we could potentially get something better than what exists today. ”
