They call it “Pat’s Whisk(e)y Collection” and it is the opportunity to obtain VERY rare whiskies. Read more here.
We keep seeing record-breaking auctions of incredible bottles of whisky. During the last few years the mania for collecting rare and exclusive bottles has become the very clever pastime of many.
“Pat’s Whisk(e)y Collection”, is the collection of a whiskey enthusiast inspired by other whiskey enthusiasts with a total of 9 000 bottles and more than 2 000 miniatures. It is worth more than 5 million dollars, and was built over the course of 15 years. According to Whisky Auctioneer, “it is the largest private whisky collection ever auctioned“. And even though we have often heard about “the largest collection ever auctioned”, the reality is that the world of collectible whisky is changing very quickly and there will always be new and unpublished collections for sale.
But who is Pat? The mysterious owner of this great collection is know as Pat, because as it usually happens in the case of most private auctions, the owner has asked to keep his anonymity.
The sale is part of an auction through Whisky Auctioneer, the number one online whisky auction site. But also through various auctions. The first one started on Saturday 26th September and will continue until Monday 5th October. According to The Drinks Business, the first batch auctioned includes “whiskies such as Karuizawa, Hanyu, Mackmyra, Kavalan, Daftmill and Duncan Taylor’s Bowmore, Port Ellen, Caperdonich and Highland Park (and more) bottles.”
The complete collection will be auctioned until June 2021. “…is a collection for everyone, accessible to everyone and most importantly, something to enjoy,” said Iain McClune, founder of Whisky Auctioneer.
