Several microbreweries and bars left a large amount of beer unsold as a result of Covid-19. Some opted to transform it into hand sanitizer.
In the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, ten alcohol companies joined forces to transform unsold alcohol inventories into hand sanitizer gel. These include Rio Tinto and Distillerie du Fjord. Indeed, the Covid-19 pandemic caused many stocks of beer to remain unsold and the various companies will transform them into hand gel.
The companies expect to recover 10 000 litres of regional microbreweries, as well as waste from the Km12 gin. These alcohols will be distilled and then sent to Rio Tinto’s Arvida Research and Development Center (CRDA) to produce 1,000 liters of hand sanitizer.
