Since 2014, Ecover has collected about 11 tones of plastic for the making of eco-friendly bottles, Ocean Bottles. So far 425,000 bottles are available for sale all around Europe. Now, the company is launching its new limited-edition, Ocean Washing-Up Liquid Bottle, with the goal to incite a new way to rethink the way we use plastic.

50 % of the bottle is made of plastic waste found on the oceans and shores of Rio de Janeiro, while its other 50% is made of post-consumers recycled plastic. The liquid itself is made of biodegradable plant-based materials. This is something that has inspired its design, which goes with the elements of nature, such as the robust skeletal figure seen in plenty oceanic micro-organisms.

Moreover, the firm is also setting up deals with important retailers in order to discover new alternative for users, such as creating a re-fill option in participating stores.

Ecover believes that using virgin plastic has been a systematically mistake. According to Head of Long Term innovation, Tom Deomen, this sustainable solution has become their biggest ambition and their purpose is to create by 2020, 100 % recycled plastic (PCR) in all of their bottles. Also new biodegradable alternatives are now in trial
