In a recent interview with Eyewitness News, we learn a little more about Shanna-Rae Wilby, the woman behind the Mirari Gin, a little bit better.

 

Eyewitness News: How did the idea of Mirari Gin come to you?

Shanna-Rae Wilby: After several years working in the industry, I wanted to create a new kind of gin with my signature touch of femininity.

How long did you work on this project?

It took me 14 months to see this project succeed, it has been a long process. It’s incredible that people get amazed when they add tonic to their gin and see the color change. That’s what I called my gin Mirari: it is an old Latin word which means wonder.

 

What makes Mirari gin unique?

Our gins have floral and spicy flavours, and it’s 100 % natural because we don’t use enhancers or flavourings. The packaging is unique, these delicate and feminine bottles don’t look like spirits bottles. It reflects my own implication in the distillery.

Do you have some interesting fact to share about the ingredients you use?

The honeybush tea we use to infuse our Mirari amber gin is actually an endangered species so we have it grown especially for us!

 

What are the best ingredients to add to Mirari gin?

The flavours of our gin are incredible you can enhance or hide it, it depends on the ingredients you add to it. With our Mirari blue for example, blueberries or mint are perfect in summer and cinnamon in winter. Our Mirari pink can be paired with pepper and our Mirari amber tastes incredible with orange! Rosemary, coriander and lemon are perfect too.

Are you working on a new special gin?

We created a new brand under Time Anchor Distillery, we are thinking about a London dry gin.
