The extensive whisky collection includes a 72-year-old Macallan Single Malt bottled in a Lalique glass decanter.
Started live on 12 July, the auction continues until Sunday 21 July 8:00PM, auctioning a total of 1150 bottles of whisky. Among them is a very rare bottle of Macallan, “The New Range Rover”. The latter was launched in the mid-1990s to celebrate the departure of the Range Rover P38. In fact, the much-hunted bottle contains a label that mentions “The New Range Rover.
Macallan fans will be more than delighted. The auction contains more bottles from the Scottish distillery. On the other hand, the 52 year old Macallan whisky bottled in a Caithness Glass Millenium decanter. In fact, last month, this whisky broke a JustWhisky record when sold for £58,000.
Whisky: An evergrowing business
The buying and selling of whisky is a phenomenon that continues to increase in value. Investment in the whisky category has increased by 600% in the last decade (Frank Knight). Rare whisky increased 35% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2019. In 2018, however, the increase was more significant, with a 40% increase in value of almost 600% over the last decade.
Macallan bottles break the record for the most expensive bottles. In fact, Sotheby’s Live set a new world auction record for any spirit sold in North America: The Macallan whisky 1926 60 YO Sir Peter Blake Label reached $843,200 in New York.
But for JustWhisky these sales represent being number one in the whisky auctions. “We are delighted to be recognized by our sellers as the number one auction for Macallan and look forward to seeing the bids coming in,” says Graham Crane, director.
