An old and abandoned 1980 Yamaha XS650 was able to held a land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

The vehicle was ridden and built by 41-year old Ryan Montgomery at his garage based in Montana, also owner of Montgomery Distillery.

Ryan used the discarded vodka extracted from the distillery process, which is not fit for drinking, as fuel to make its motorcycle run, and in a period of two months and the help of his friends and sponsors to finance his project, he finally made the $5000 gathered worth the challenge.

What’s even more impressive is that Ryan had never raced or built a motorcycle before, but the ‘Sudden Wisdom’ (named after the distiller’s rye whiskey brand) rode the famous Bonneville Salt Flats and even exceeded his 98 mph goal for three consecutive days. It reached an average speed of 113 mph, breaking the land speed record for its category.

However, unfortunately for Ryan, the record was subsequently surpassed by a 1974 Honda CB750 with an average of 143 mph.

Don’t drink and drive. Enjoy responsibly.
