The Belfast Telegraph reports that Irish tycoon Terry Cross said he will open a vodka and gin distillery in France.

Terry Cross plans to open a gin and vodka distillery on his Bordeaux estate, the Château de La Ligne vineyard. Previously, Cross announced the development of his £15 million Hinch Distillery on his Killaney Estate property. It is now possible that the distillery’s plans in Ireland will border France.

The tycoon explained that he analysed the market for Irish whiskey and Irish gin. “The market for Irish whiskey is on fire at the moment, led mainly by Jameson and Tullamore Dew.”

Reinforcing his argument about the gin market, Cross decides to announce plans to build a distillery in France. “We’re going to build a distillery in Bordeaux as well. Probably for French gin and vodka. The plans have been established.”

The plan for the Hinch Distillery is to create an ambitious project worth 15 million pounds. The whiskey and gin distillery are currently under development and include a visitors’ centre. It is located behind its Killaney Estate property. Hinch Distillery is due to open in 2021 and the master distiller has already created a number of blends from stocks of whiskey that Terry has acquired.

His property in France, Château de la Ligne was bough in the year 2000. On this site, Cross planted an 11-hectare vineyard respecting Bordeaux traditions, with the ambition of re-establishing Château de la Ligne as a jewel of the Bordeaux appellation.
