No need for an introduction. The “queen of soul” or “Lady Soul” unfortunately and inconsolably joins the many idols of past times that 2018 has taken from us. But on our Spirits Hunters playlist of today we pay tribute to the unparalleled voice of Aretha Franklin who shall live on forever.
Respect, originally from Otis Redding, went down in history with its best rhythm and soul style, a track that officially established her as the new “queen of soul”. A feminist and political anthem, reinforcing its meaning with its powerful and imposing voice, backed by magnificent choirs and a band that plays its instruments impeccably.
In addition, Respect’s lyrical power transcended the 1960s by giving a voice and support to color groups. The song belongs to the album I Never Loved a Man the Way I Loved You and earned her her two first Grammy awards. Aretha Franklin, an artist who will remain for posterity and eternity, leaving an important legacy for modern music. We toast to Aretha Franklin and may she live forever.
