Karuizawa Whisky 1999 Cask #867, 12 years old is a Japanese Single Cask Malt Whisky, bottled on October 10th, 2011.
With my Scottish origins, I love the idea that the barley used for its production came directly from Scotland to be enhanced by water sourced deep in the volcanic soils near Mount Asama, at a very high altitude of 850 meters where the distillery was located in Miyota. Japan’s whisky production being active since the 1950’s has become the second whisky producer in the world. It concentrated on making very high quality niche whiskies since the 1990’s becoming a major asset to the global whisky industry.
This bottle was initially distributed by The Number One Drinks Company, founded in 2006, devoted to selecting niche Japanese whiskies such as this one. Karuizawa , known to be the smallest Japanese distillery closed in 2000. Its production has now become a collector’s item worldwide.
The 1999 Vintage is a powerful whisky, bottled at 58,9°, after ageing for over 12 years in sherry casks. It will be offered on auction on June 30th, 2018 during the Artcurial spirit auction held in Paris for the Liquid Gold exhibit. Estimate 2.000/2.200€.
