More than 1500 bartenders in Australia consider themselves ugly. Ok, more like U.G.L.Y (Understanding, Generous, Likeable You). We are talking about the largest fundraiser campaign in Australia aimed to support Leukemia patients.
After 10 years of competition, an estimated amount of 10,000 U.G.L.Y Bartender have collected about $12 million funds. 2018 has been the most successful year so far due to a significant increase of participants from all over the country.
With quiz nights, live entertainment, family BBQ’s and of course, competitions, participating bartenders have the opportunity to win prizes and only one of them can be crowned as the (proud to be) the U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the year.
Funds are used to pay accommodation services for Leukemia patients obliged to leave their homes and jobs in order to move to the big cities where they’d be able to continue their treatment.
According to Leukemia Foundation CEO Bill Petch, the annual U.G.L.Y. Bartender Competition has paid for 150,000 nights, including the patients’ family. Every day, about 35 people are diagnosed with a type of blood cancer such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
The official competition concluded last September 11 in Queensland. However, more competitions will start on October and November in several States across the country.
