A total of 13 bottles make up the unique collection chosen for their classic yet distinctly colorful character. And representative of the year 1967 in which Sir Peter Blake’s collage style transcended the art world into pop culture. “This exceptional 1967 whisky was chosen for its classic yet distinctively colorful character, which is reminiscent of Sir Peter Blake’s work of the same year,” said Sarah Burgess The Macallan’s main whisky maker.
“Each bottle features its own original collage artwork on the label. It uniquely captures stories of our history, community and the beautiful natural landscape of The Macallan Estate,” the brand said on its website.
“I am deeply inspired by the incredible legacy of The Macallan, and its emphasis on family, tradition and the natural world,” Blake said. “Each collage in the Anecdotes of Ages collection is inspired by the history and heritage of The Macallan. It respects time and craftsmanship, two essential components of my own creative process. I have worked meticulously on each collage, pulling from the rich history of The Macallan Estate to complete a collection that is a celebration of art and whisky.”
The hand blowned bottles with oak stoppers have been signed by Blake. The whisky comes in a European oak case with photograph of Blake depicting his journey with The Macallan, along with leather book and a certificate of authenticity.
Tasting Notes
The familiar and homely tastes of sweet oak, hazelnut burst and strawberry are tempered with hints from further afield: fig, pineapple, mango and lightly spiced peach bring distant horizons to mind. Light nutmeg, ginger and warm chocolate bring further stimulation to the senses.
Anecdotes of Ages: Down to Work Limited Edition
The thirteenth bottle of the collection will remain in The Macallan archive. Therefore, a limited edition whisky with the same label and liquid will be released. There are only 332 bottles of the Anecdotes of Ages: Down to Work Limited Edition collection. They are available worldwide at a reference price of $83,000.
“This is a truly special whisky that finishes with complex flavors of chocolate and lightly spiced peach. It is in many ways, its own work of art,” said Sarah Burgess, referring to the tasting notes of the 1967 whisky.
