Since recently it is now possible for you to cross the St Laurent River in a completely different way! If you are a gin enthusiast, the idea of association between the four distilleries of eastern Quebec will surely interest you. The “Fils du Roy” distilleries -now known for their recent french pastis made in Quebec– in Rivière-du-Loup, “O’Dwyer” in Gaspé, “St.Laurent” in Rimouski and “La Société secrète” in Percé, all specialized in gin production, could go as far as opening a new spirits trail around the famous river.

This project is now feasible thanks to the new regulations concerning micro-distilleries in Canada. The latter were granted the right to sell their product where produced and thus to open their doors to the public. A transformation that at first glance seems banal, but which will nevertheless bring a great change to the AMDQ (Association des Micro-Distilleries du Québec).

Indeed, since 1920 the Quebec distilleries suffer from a ban on tasting and sale at the place of production, following the ban on promotion law dating from the prohibition. A law that is no longer in force since the entry into force of the new regulations. Today distilleries can offer guided tours with tasting and product sale. A way to attract spirits lovers as well as a new clientele curious about regional products.
