In Alberta, the Ukrainian community has denounced the logo of a Russian vodka brand, a hammer and sickle, which for them represents the genocide of millions of Ukrainians.

The brand particularly caught the attention of Alberta’s Ukrainian Canadian Congress President Luciw-Andryjowycz for the first time at Calgary airport, she told CBC.

However, the CBC reported that the government agency told it that it was not possible to remove them from liquor stores because they are private businesses.

Later, in a statement to the CBC, the Alberta commission said it “recognizes that the Holodomor was a horrible period in Ukrainian history” and decided to withdraw the sale of vodka.
