The biggest alcohol producer, Diageo, announced the 10 rare whiskeys that people should buy this year. In those special releases, the chosen spirits have various years old, from near a half century to not even a dozen years.

 

  1. Caol Ila Unpeated (15 years, $129)

With its gold color, this whiskey from Islay has a fruity sharpness of green apples and orange zest. Its sweet minty-salty taste at first converts into a freezing and warming finish.

 

  1. Caol Ila (35 years, $989)

An older version of the first mentioned Caol Ila. This one bears an antique gold color and a smooth texture. With its floral and fruity taste, it starts sweetly, then rises a peaty pungency and a spicy-sweet finish.

 

  1. Carserbridge (48 years, $959)

From Lowlands, this whiskey has a balanced aroma of old grain which lets you know that once in your palate, you will surely have the pleasure of experiencing a mouthfeel of spicy taste. This same taste will remain in your mouth for a long time.

 

  1. Cladach ($200)

You can add a dash of water to bring wonderfully all the coastal aromas of this whiskey. Its blend of six single malts will delight your palate.

  1. Inchgower (27 years, $359)

With its surprising malt coming from a historic distillery, this whiskey from Speyside has a nutty and spicy taste. It has beautifully kept the special feature of the establishment.

 

  1. Lagavulin (12 years, $139)

From Islay, this whiskey gives you a sweet, oily and salty starts, then goes to a vinegar-dry finish.

  1. Oban (21 years, $549)

Compressed, its nose goes to a wide variety of aromas, from malt to sea-air. Concerning the taste, this whiskey from Highlands features sweetness and a little bit of saltiness.

 

  1. Pittyvaich (28 years, $419)

Another one from Speyside! This whiskey has a charred and straightforward taste that has a long finish.

 

  1. The Singleton Glen Ord (14 years, $130)

From Highlands, the whiskey has aromas of baked apple, beeswax, sweet orange fruit and spice. Combined all together, the results give you a smooth taste rich in fruity notes.

 

  1. Talisker (8 years, $90)

The Talisker is a whiskey from Island delivering a smooth and precise taste. As the younger of the list, it comes out with a strong assuredness.
