New record for the Bonhams Hong Kong auction house! A bottle of Yamazaki 55 years old whisky sold for $795,000. Find out the details here.

This is the oldest and most expensive Japanese whisky ever sold at auction. The Yamazaki 55 Years Old was sold at the sound of the hammer on August 21st for HK$6.2 million, that is, US$795,000. Its initial sale price was HK$580,000 – HK$780,000 = $74,834 – $100,640.

Yamazaki 55 years old whisky is a very special item among collectors as only 100 bottles of this edition were produced. It was distilled in the 1960s and matured in a Japanese mizunara oak barrel in 1960 and its precious liquid was transferred to a white oak barrel in 1964.

Daniel Lam, wine and whisky specialist at Bonhams says: “This impressive price marks a new milestone for the Japanese whisky market, a testament to the desire and determination of collectors to acquire the best the market has to offer“.
