Jaime Añón is one of the 20 finalists of the Best Confinement Tuto-Confinement Bartender Contest and a winner of the first week of the contest.
We learned more about him through a 7-question interview. Meet him with us below.
SPIRITS HUNTERS: 1. Where are you originally from?
JAIME AÑÓN: I’m from Córdoba, in the south of Spain (Andalusia), although I trained as a bartender in Madrid.
2 – How long have you been a bartender?
When I was 17 years old I started working combining my studies with work in the family business, a bar where I worked as a “barback”. It’s been 21 years now…
3 – What brought you to the world of bartending / what inspired you to become a bartender?
Wanting to evolve in the work environment, awoke in me the interest in improving myself and acquiring new skills. In addition, I have always been interested in the image of the classic bartender.
4 – What have you discovered about yourself being a bartender?
I have discovered that maybe I can be good at something, and enjoy my craft. Also the satisfaction of making the guest feel good with hospitality.
5 – How is the situation in your city/country regarding Covid?
Currently there are restrictions on the capacity of the bars, especially affecting my current sector, the cocktail bar at private parties, which is very restricted. In the last few days there has been a resurgence of infections that threatens the activity of bars. Perhaps there will be another lockdown.
6 – What inspired you to make the video you’ve sent us for the Confinement Bartender Contest?
Apart from competitiveness, my main goal was to have fun and share my work with others.
7 – Is your bar open today?
Currently the family business is open with limited capacity (<40%). However, my consulting and cocktail activity in private events is very damaged, having lost the reservations for the whole year 2020.
Thank you Jaime for this interview it was a pleasure for the Spirits Hunters team.
