Embrace this new fun way to spend a weekend with your family or friends. Spiritourism is an organized trip intended for a visit at a distillery where tours, workshops and tastings are offered.
The term spiritourism comes from “spirits” and “tourism”. Spirit drinks are considered as such when containing a minimum graduation of 15% vol. These must be distillated from agricultural raw materials. Some examples are: brandy, whiskey, rum, gin, and vodka.
The French travel guide “Petit Futé”, has included hundreds of places to do “spiritualism”. In this year’s list, there are 54 places in France and abroad.
In 2017, the FFS (Fédération Française des Spiritueux) has registered about 1.6 million visitors in all of these sites. This year, it is expected to meet a higher rate.
On the other hand, it is clear that distilleries are taking advantage of this great revenue opportunity. Now, their income will not only depend on the alcohol they sell, but also on the curious tourists who wish to know how the distilleries’ inside look and work, along the surprises these may offer.
Don’t drink and drive. Enjoy responsibly.
