El Profesor explains what a London Dry Gin is!
The first thing we have to know is that gin is a simple distillate of cereals. These cereals can be malted barley for example. Gin has as origin a rectified alcohol of high graduation.
Now, knowing this, the London dry gin, what is it?
The London Dry Gin is used to make cocktails such as the Gin Tonic, the Tom Collins, the Martini or the Gin Fizz.
Contrary to what you might think, London Dry Gin does not need to be manufactured in London. However, in order to do so, it is necessary to stick to its traditional forms of production. In other words, it is necessary to distill the spirit of neutral grain in the presence of botanical ingredients. The resulting distillate must have a minimum strength of 70% and no flavorings can be added after distillation. It is also forbidden to color the distillate.
