Hennessy X.O. celebrates its 150th anniversary with stunning new design by Frank Gehry

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of French cognac, architect Frank Gehry reinterpreted the decanter in an exclusive piece.

Hennessy releases a new exclusive bottle with a design that mixes bronze, gold and glass materials made by architect Frank Gehry. To make it, Gehry blends his vision and the history of Maison Hennessy to illustrate the legacy of Hennessy X.O.

Gehry made two creations, an exclusive piece of bronze, gold and glass that wraps around the bottle and the limited edition box for storage. This Gehry chest was inspired by the heart of the Charente River. It pays homage to the river that borders the city of Cognac, the historical cradle of the house.

The architect is often inspired by movement: floors that bend, walls that lean, lines that defy gravity… And this is what he did to reinterpret Hennessy X.O. as if it were one of his architectural works. At the same time, he respected the traditions, history and art of aging and assembly characteristic of cognac. Gehry also did kept in mind the heritage and experience of Maison Hennessy.

The decanter is wrapped in a bronze pleated casing covered with 24-carat gold. The bottle rests on a glass sculpture. Each stage in the realization of this work, Gehry’s inspiration and idea, required several hours of attention, care, patience and thoroughness.

“I wanted to bring Hennessy X.O. to life, so I was inspired by her birthplace and used the osmosis of the material to give her a sense of movement. The materials I chose catch the light and make it a unique object in itself. Only after that one realizes that it is a bottle of Hennessy X.O.” Frank Gehry.

To deepen the experience around the decanter, Frank Gehry developed a gun, made of brass and gold. This object reflects the ritual of the Master Creator for the optimal service of extra old cognac (X.O.). To improve the contrast effect, all the elements they have were packed in a case, in compressed cardboard. With the use of this material, the artist makes in particular a tribute to a series of corrugated cardboard furniture that he had imagined in the 70s. This Hennessy creation by Frank Gehry will be available in 150 numbered copies bearing the artist’s signature.
