The investment takes five years to improve production processes in Guadalajara, Jalisco and other cities.

Mexico is the most important Latin American market for Diageo. Alberto Gavazzi, president of the company for Latin America and the Caribbean said, according to Milenio newspaper, “Diageo is an innovative company, we will have the commitment to continue for the long term, as we have done in Mexico, our most important market for Latin America“. The new plant was inaugurated in Atotonilco, Jalisco.

With the implementation of these facilities, where Don Julio Tequila will be produced, the company concludes its investment for $400 million dollars. In addition to producing tequila, the plant is expected to introduce packaging processes for Smirnoff and Captain Morgan.

The market for Diageo in Mexico has grown 8.0 percent in the last year and is the seventh most important market for the company. Gavazzi explained.

This investment will be reflected in a more economically, socially and environmentally sustainable supply chain. In addition, it will generate a significant number of jobs. They estimate to have more than 1,000 employees by 2020. The estimated production of the plant amounts to 5 million boxes, which is equivalent to a double production.
