30 year old Macallan whisky cask to be auctioned at Bonhams

Auction house Bonhams Hong Kong will auction a 30-year-old Macallan whisky cask valued at least $411,000.

The 30-year-old Macallan whisky cask is part of the Fine and Rare auction that will take place on August 20.

This cask, whose whisky was distilled in December 1991, was re-casked in a sherry cask in 2017. The whiskyy inside the cask rests at 51% abv.

Bonhams expects the selling price to be a minimum of US$411 443.

Daniel Lam, Bomhams’ director of wines and spirits in Asia said, “Whisky casks that reach 30 years or more are extremely rare in today’s market.

This 1991 Macallan cask offered in our August sale is an all-rounder of its kind: it comes from a prestigious distiller, is casked in premium wood, has a high alcohol content and an attractive estimate. We expect there will be a lot of interest, as the market is maturing toward barrel collecting.”

Bonhams auction house holds a record for the sale of a whisky cask, when they auctioned a 30-year-old Macallan sherry hogshead cask equally, at $572 000 during the Fine and Rare Wine and Whisky auction on November 15, 2019.
