Pat’s Whiskey Collection sells for $4.5 million
Pat’s Whiskey Collection or the world’s largest private whiskey collection offered on the secondary market has reached a total of £3.36 million ($4.5 million) following 23 auctions over two years.
The Pat’s Whiskey Collection comprises more than 9,000 bottles from more than 150 Scottish distilleries, as well as Bourbons and bottlings from Europe and around the world.
Whiskey Auctioneer divided the collection into 23 auctions and the final sale concluded on November 22, 2021. The first part of the collection went on sale on September 25, 2020.
It took nearly two years to sell the entire collection, which included 5,000 malt whiskies, more than 1,000 blended whiskies and more than 600 American whiskies.

The October 2020 American whiskey auction fetched a hammer price of £376,183 ($508,317), while the December 2020 European bottlers auction sold for a total of £302,456 ($408,700).
A range of whiskies from the Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection fetched £246,209 ($332,700) in October 2021.
Highlights of the collection include a Brora 1972 Rare Malts 22 Years Old (£20,500/$27,700), a Glenfarclas 1952 Family Cask #1712 Release I: (£18,000/$24,332) and a Karuizawa 35 Years Old Bourbon Cask #8518 / Emerald Geisha (£9,200/$12,431).

The variety of whiskies on offer was unique, with whiskies accessible at all price points, which we hope will inspire the next generation of collectors.”
“It is highly unlikely that we will ever see a collection as large and diverse as this again, which means this auction will go down in whiskey history, setting a precedent for future collectors.”
Pat’s Whiskey Collection was amassed over 15 years by an anonymous collector known only as “Pat.”
“Selling the collection was a deeply emotional process for me, as it has been such an important part of my life,” said Pat.
“I feel that this incredible journey has culminated in a fitting end, with these bottles returned to the marketplace for others to enjoy, perhaps with some added knowledge.”
The final auction of the collection in November 2021 reached £758,223 ($1 million), of which £26,134 ($35,312) was donated to Teenage Cancer Trust, while Whisky Auctioneer pledged £2,375 ($3,210) to the charity.
