An authentic and first tequila bar in Detroit

Toma Detroit is the first Tequila bar in town, which will also offer a wide variety of mezcals and Latino inspired meals.

All co-founder, Eddie Vargas, Corey McIntosh, Jose Maldonado and Tony Lopez, were childhood friends who grew up together in the « Mexicantown », the southwest side of Detroit where Mexican descendants predominate in terms of population.

Their dream became possible after a $50,000 grant from the 2018 Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest presented by Bedrock. They will also obtain more than $200,000 in pro bono support and counsel from Hatch Detroit for legal services architectural design, technology and public relations services.

Toma bar is considered as the official tasting place for Tony’s family business, the popular and award-winning Tequila Cabestro, only sold in Michigan. This is something that Toma Detroit wish to seize as an opportunity for the well development of the new business. TD will also focus on teaching their visitors the distillation process of tequila and mezcal and their menu will include a blend of different Latin-American traditional meals.

Toma Detroit is located in Corktown, a former Irish immigrant neighborhood which has been transformed into “the” place to hang out, with farm-to-table restaurants, cocktail bars or artisan coffee shops, adjacent to Ford Motor Company hub.

Trying this Mexican’s treasure at an Irish looking bar in Detroit will surely be a real multicultural experience.
