+13.5% Tequila exports on the rise despite Covid-19

As announced in recent months, the tequila market continues to grow steadily despite the worldwide impact of Covid-19.

All aspects of tequila are benefiting from an increase. On the one hand, exports grew 13.5% reaching 238 million liters sent out of the country. On the other hand, production increased 3.8% with more than 309 million liters produced from January to October according to the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT).

The CRT highlighted: “The production of tequila increased 3.8% in the last ten months of the year in relation to 2019 when it reached 309 million liters produced. The production category 100 percent of agave registered the 183 million liters“.

In addition, the CRT added that the bottled mode is the one that continues with a greater take-off, since of the total of the export, 154 million liters went abroad. This amount represents 17.8% more than in 2019. On the other hand, the increase in bulk was only 6.5%.

As for the category 100 percent agave, this was the one with the highest growth in exports. It grew 20.8% compared to the same period last year. Its exports rose to 132 million liters, detailed the CRT.

On the other hand, the tequola category, elaborated with at least 51% of blue agave tequilana weber variety, registered a 5.6% increase.

In short, the United States continues to be the main foreign market for tequila in its two categories. A total of 211,043,478 liters were shipped at 40% alcohol by volume. “The rest of the international market is divided between the European Union, and the other almost 100 countries that important tequila“, added the CRT.
