saint james fort de france rum

A sale of 450 bottles of rum to fight illiteracy

The 22-year-old “Cuvée Exclusive Fort-de-France” is a batch of Saint-James rum whose mission is to fight illiteracy.

Together with the Fort-de-France Rotary Club, the Saint-James rum distillery has created an exceptional rum vintage. The bottles, christened Cuvée Exclusive Fort-de-France, are 22 years old and are intended for sale. The profits from this sale will be used to take action and fight against illiteracy and computer illiteracy.

This batch comes from an exceptional harvest created by the climate and the quality of the rum. Its pure cane juice has aged without interruption in eight small oak barrels from December 31st 1998 to November 24th 2020, that is to say almost 22 years.

These are the last eight barrels of rum from this mythical year. And the only rum of this age currently available from the Saint-James distillery.

According to the specialists, this batch is wonderful, very long and intense in the mouth. Over time it has been subjected to strong concentration. Consequently, it was enriched in tannins that gave it an aromatic complexity.

Marc Sassier, the oenologist of Saint-James rum explains in a video that the volume of air allowed a slow and elaborate micro-oxidation that allows the characters and typical features of Saint-James rum to be refined. This is therefore an unprecedented rum, which has been aged for a very long time for one of its vintage wines. This gives it an exclusive character for an AOC agricultural rum.
