Covid-19: 400,000 euros for hospitals in Charente and Charente-Maritime
Via a press release, all the professionals of the wine-growing area, winegrowers, distillers and merchants, have informed that they are making a collective donation of 400 000 euros for the hospitals of Charente and Charente-Maritime.
Professionals working in Cognac, Pineau des Charentes, IGP Charentais wines and Wines without Geographical Indication are donating 400,000 euros to hospitals and other public health establishments in Charente and Charente-Maritime.
Among other actions, the cognac sector is mobilizing to provide logistical support to pharmacies in Charente and Charente-Maritime. In addition to the collective and individual initiatives of the trading houses and winegrowers already under way, it will extend a scheme to supply alcohol and raw materials used in the manufacture of hydroalcoholic solutions to pharmacies in Charente and Charente-Maritime.
With the assistance of the New Aquitaine regional health agency (ARS) and the Union of pharmacists’ unions (USPO), the Cognac sector is setting up a regional operation from Monday 6 April 2020. The aim is to collect and supply pharmacies in the Charente and Charente-Maritime which can manufacture hydroalcoholic solution. Alcohol (around 35,000 liters) ; glycerol and hydrogen peroxide. Or canisters for transport and bottles for distribution. These last elements are also very difficult to find at present.
