kendall jenner 818 tequila

Give Kendall Jenner a break, her tequila is great!

Give Kendall Jenner a break, her tequila 818 is great and SHE is also building homes for the most needed in Mexico.

Anyone else doing this? *

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the star said that her company 818 Tequila is paving way for new sustainability initiatives and is also offering support to the local community in Mexico. (Source: thenews.com).

What does Spirits Hunters think?

People seem to be barking up the wrong tree! Has anyone accused George Clooney, Randy Gerber or even The Rock for their tequilas? They have profited of the tequila/mezcal business. They aren’t Mexican and no one accuses them of cultural appropriation.

They (Clooney, Jenner, Gerber, Jonas) have made this category grow and now the tequila and mezcal industry is thriving, having the highest growth in the alcohol business this year.

At spiritshunters.com we are not big viewers of the Kardashian show but these women have become outstanding businesswomen and they are an example to the younger generations who want to succeed. So, why are they relentlessly attacking Jenner for her tequila?

According to the Daily mail:

“Kendall Jenner accused of ripping off Austin-based tequila brand and charging TWICE the price despite being made at the same Mexican distillery… amid cultural appropriation backlash”

  • The KUWTK star has been accused of ripping off Austin-based tequila brand 512 that shares a similar brand name, design and logo
  • 818 Tequila by Kendall, 25, is marketed as being a twice-distilled blanco that retails at $44.99
  • Meanwhile Austin’s Tequila 512 – which launched in 2012 – is a triple-distilled blanco and is priced lower online at $26.99. Well, they should be happy about the fact that it is less expensive. Why would this bother them? More people will be able to afford it!
  • Both products are made at the same distillery in Jalisco, Mexico Shouldn’t they be attacking the distillery and not Jenner? Since the distillery should have warned Nick Matzorkis that there might be a resemblance but they did not. Why? Simply because they might have not seen it.
  • CEO Nick Matzorkis said they’re not accusing Kendall of ‘stealing our idea,’ but have pointed out ‘obvious undeniable similarities’ That is difficult to prove as the label is not the same nor the colors. Both are named after numbers but definitely not the same.
  • Latest backlash comes amid claims of cultural appropriation, after Kendall named her label after her Calabasas area code 818 Nick Matzorkis is American, so technically he also is appropriating the Mexican culture…
  • Critics have suggested that Kendall’s packaging overlooks the spirit’s deep-rooted Mexican legacy, and has now real affiliation to the country Kendall can have her own approach when it comes to how she wants to market her tequila, can’t she?
