Mezcal or Añejo, grapefruit and worm salt: Kylie Jenner’s holiday’s drink of choice
Kylie Jenner showed us what a good time looks like while on holidays in Mexico: mezcal shots and garnishes for the soul.
Mezcal is made with 100% agave, although it can be produced from different varieties. Mainly from the state of Oaxaca and Michoacán, it is usually taken with a slice of orange and sprinkled with “worm salt”, made in a traditional way from the grinding of red maguey worms previously toasted, dried chilies and salt. Thus it’s red color (which we can see at the center of the plate).
Well, for some reason Kylie Jenner, the star of Keeping Up With The Kardashians chose grapefruit instead of lime. But some suggested Jenner might be drinking añejo and tajin, a condiment consisting of dried and ground red chilies, sea salt, dehydrated lime juice, and a tiny bit of an anti-caking agent.
But while for some grapefruit and mezcal sounded “gross”, let me tell you both ingredients blend very well together in a cocktail. Bartender Benjamin Nolf from Jeffrey’s bar in Paris suggests the Salty Worm cocktail:
- 10ml Sugar Syrup
- 20ml lime
- 40ml grapefruit juice
- 50ml mezcal
- Top with pink pepper tonic
So, how would you drink it your mezcal?
¡Salud!
Don’t drink and drive. Enjoy responsibly.
