Prince Charles enjoyed a whisky at the Johnnie Walker Princes Street Experience

The Prince of Wales enjoyed a whisky cocktail at the newly opened Johnnie Walker Experience on Princes Street in Edinburgh.

He felt right at home, as the Prince of Wales is also known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland. With whisky cocktail in hand, Prince Charles officially opened the Johnnie Walker Experience, the eight-story building for lovers of the world’s best-selling Scotch whisky, Yahoo reported.

During the ceremony he unveiled a plaque on the rooftop bar from which we can admire Edinburgh Castle.

The visit was an opportunity for the first students of the Johnnie Walker Learning For Life Academy to meet Prince Charles. The program offers dedicated bartending and hospitality training. They were joined by representatives from the Prince’s Foundation to introduce the hospitality courses run at the charity’s base, Dumfries House in Ayrshire.

This marked the beginning of a partnership between Johnnie Walker and The Prince’s Foundation to provide training and employment opportunities to support the recovery of hospitality and tourism in Scotland.

To celebrate this special occasion, the students prepared a cocktail for the Prince called Duke of Rothesay created with Johnnie Walker Autumn, the first seasonal whisky created exclusively for Johnnie Walker Princes Street. The cocktail contained a garnish of ingredients grown in the gardens of the Dumfries House estate.

Before signing the guest book, he enjoyed a sip of his drink on the rocks and joked, “These are the biggest blocks of ice I’ve ever seen.”

Diageo CEO Ivan Menezes hosted the Charles on the tour, along with Diageo’s president for supply chain and procurement, Ewan Andrew, and Johnnie Walker Princes Street managing director Barbara Smith.

Mr. Menezes said, “It was an honor to welcome His Royal Highness The Duke of Rothesay to officially open Johnnie Walker Princes Street and a pleasure to celebrate this special moment with our people and the students we are training for an exciting future in the hospitality industry.”

We are grateful to His Royal Highness for the interest he has shown in the Scotch whisky industry and look forward to working in partnership with The Prince’s Foundation to create opportunities for people in communities across Scotland to access training and employment in hospitality and tourism.”

The Johnnie Walker Princes Street Experience

The Johnnie Walker Princes Street has been built on an Edinburgh city landmark, the House of Fraser department store.

The project finally culminates after four and a half years of work for which they invested £185 million to promote Scotch whisky tourism in Scotland. With a total floor area of 6,642 m2, the attraction offers tours to discover visitors’ personal taste preferences, a whisky collection, tasting opportunities, two rooftop bars and a terrace overlooking the city.

For its part, the City of Edinburgh made its voice heard through its dedicated tourism website VisitScotland. Chief executive Malcolm Roughead described the center as “An exceptional addition to Edinburgh’s world-class experiences, demonstrating the confidence of international brands in the capital, while supporting the recovery of Scottish tourism.
