The Glasgow Distillery now more sustainable and bigger

Starting this month The Glasgow Distillery is bottling its single malt whisky in larger 70cl bottles, all with more sustainable packaging.

Scottish single malt whisky distillery The Glasgow Distillery will introduce its Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky in 70cl bottles from April. Both the bottle and packaging will be more sustainable, as they used proportionally less glass than for the original 50cl bottle.

The team says the new design has received the seal of approval from its global customers and orders are currently being prepared for shipment around the world as the distillery begins to enter new markets.

These new bottles, although larger in capacity, will maintain the same retail price as the originals.

Liam Hughes, co-founder and managing director of The Glasgow Distillery, said the increased production has allowed them to maintain their recommended retail price of £49 per bottle to ensure their whiskies remain affordably priced.

The distillery, which launched in 2018 with its first Glasgow 1770 expression, now has three different styles of spirits-unpeated, peated and triple-distilled-that draw inspiration from the city’s creative and industrial heritage.

Meanwhile, Hugues added in parallel to the return of spring and the cessation of Covid-19 restrictions in Scotland, “Now that Glasgow is vibrant again after a couple of difficult years, we at The Glasgow Distillery wanted to come back bigger too, with a bigger bottle that would allow us to expand our international exports and open up new and exciting markets.

The new packaging is already proving positive for us, as we prepare to ship orders for our single malt to the United States; China; Singapore and to a new distribution partner in France for the first time.

From day one, our mission has been to produce a range of whisky that is leading in taste and quality, and this new bottle size is another step on that journey.

Hughes added that he is excited to see the new bottle live, he said, “Since our first launch in 2018 we have been steadily increasing production across our Glasgow 1770 Signature range and are now delighted to unveil this larger bottle with a more environmentally friendly design.”
