After a successful first edition in France Spirits Hunters @spiritshunters_mag and the Cognac appellation @cognac_official are organising a competition exclusively on Instagram for bartenders based in the United Kingdom.

The Cognac Bartender Contest UK has been created for all bartenders in the UK who want to share with us via Instagram their tutorial video on how to create cognac-based cocktails. Our goal is to help the bartender community to stay active and support them during the Covid-19 situation.

The competition will reward one bartender each week during 6 weeks with a £100 endowment on behalf of Spirits Hunters, and the Big Winner of the competition will notably be invited to #Cognac by the interprofession and will earn a £800 endowment on behalf of Spirits Hunters.

 

Are you up for the challenge? So start thinking up your best cognac-based cocktails for when the time comes. You can submit as many videos as you like! We are looking forward to watching your videos!

You can submit your participation to the contest through this form. The #CognacBartenderContestUK will take place in the United Kingdom starting Monday March 15th until Friday May 7th! After you have filled this form you can submit your video(s) via Instagram DM starting March 15th.

COGNAC BARTENDER CONTEST UK – RULES OF THE COMPETITION

1. Organization

The competition is organized by Spirits Hunters, located at 13 Avenue de Clichy, 75017, Paris, (RCS registration number 841 311 491 R.C.S. Paris), and the Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC), located at 23 allées Bernard Guionnet, 16100 Cognac, Siret 7755563455000, intra-community VAT: FR7177556345500028.

 

Hereinafter referred to as “the Organizer”.

This contest is free, without obligation of purchase. However, Internet access is required.

 

2. Conditions of participation

– Participation in the COGNAC BARTENDER CONTEST implies being:

– A professional bartender based in the United Kingdom (active or unemployed),

– 21 years of age or older,

– And having an Instagram account.

*If you are a bartender based in the UK but due to the current situation regarding Covid-19 you are abroad and temporarily unable to return to the United Kingdom, but can prove that you work for a bar based in the UK, you are allowed to participate in the Cognac Bartender Contest UK.

 

*Providers for Spirits Hunters and the BNIC are not allowed to participate.

 

3. To participate in the contest, bartenders will have to:

*All the rules of the contest are mandatory.

Follow the accounts @spiritshunters_mag and @Cognac_Official.

Create a video tutorial not longer than 1:00 minute showing the preparation of a cognac-based cocktail. Each bartender is allowed to send several videos if they wish during the whole competition

The video must:

Be in horizontal format, with a horizontal frame over the main element centered.

Include the recipe in the video. Be didactic!

The cocktail must imperatively be prepared with cognac as the main spirit without revealing the brand.

The cocktail recipe must have a name invented by the bartender.

Subscribe for the competition via our online form* (down below) after reading the rules.

Send the video tutorial, a photograph of the cocktail and a photograph of the bartender through Instagram Direct Messages from March 15th.

Once -and only- if the video is approved by the Spirits Hunters and BNIC professional team, bartenders will publish their video tutorial on their Instagram account and tag @spiritshunters_mag and @Cognac_Official, with the hashtags #cognacbartendercontest, #spiritshunters, #cognac; #CognacCocktails.

It is forbidden to tag brands used for the preparation of the cocktail.

 

Important information

Do not show the bottle of cognac, or any other alcohol, on the video. The visibility of cognac and any other alcohol bottles can be done with the use of a jigger/doser (neutral bar material). Any video that shows a bottle of Cognac or any other alcohol (even if covered), will not be accepted, for reasons of neutrality. The Cognac Bartender Contest is indeed an interprofessional event and has no commercial purpose.

On the other hand, all other ingredients can be visible while avoiding showing the brand (cover the label with your hand when holding a soda bottle for example or turn the bottle when it is put down);

4. Contest period

The COGNAC BARTENDER CONTEST – UK will take place in the United Kingdom for 8 weeks and is divided into several stages.

 

-DURATION OF THE CONTEST: Eight weeks, from Monday, March 15th 2021 till Friday May 7th, 2021.

 

Stage 1: selection of one weekly winner for six weeks.

Stage 2: participation in the Final of the contest.

Stage 3: selection of the 20 finalists for the Grand Final.

Stage 4: selection of the Big Winner.

 

-STAGES OF THE COMPETITION:

Stage #1 six (6) weeks: reception of videos for a weekly winner. We will accept videos from Monday through Thursday for each week of contest until   5:00 p.m. UK TIME.

– Week #1: Monday, March 15, 6:00 a.m. – Friday, March 19, 5:00 p.m.

– Week #2: Monday, March 22, 6:00 a.m. – Friday, March 26, 5:00 p.m.

– Week #3: Monday, March 29, 6:00 a.m. – Friday, April 2, 5:00 p.m.

– Week #4: Monday, April 5, 6:00 a.m. – Friday, April 9, 5:00 p.m.

– Week #5: Monday, April 12, 6:00 a.m. – Friday, April 16, 5:00 p.m.

– Week #6: Monday, April 19, 6:00 a.m. – Friday, April 23, 5:00 p.m.

 

– WEEKLY WINNER: Announced every Monday at 7:00 pm UK Time as follows:

 

– Week #1: Winner will be announced Monday, March 22 at 7:00 pm.

– Week #2: Winner will be announced Monday, March 29 at 7:00 pm.

– Week #3: Winner will be announced Monday, April 5 at 7:00 pm.

– Week #4: Winner will be announced Monday, April 12 at 7:00 pm.

– Week #5: Winner will be announced Monday, April 19 at 7:00 pm.

– Week #6: Winner will be announced Monday, April 26 at 7:00 pm.

 

Stage 2 for one (1) week:

– FINAL: reception of videos for the Final from Monday, April 26 at 6:00 am to Friday, May 7th at 3:00 pm – UK TIME.

 

Stage 3

Selection of the 20 best videos for the Grand Finale. Deliberation of the Jury.

 

Stage 4 Selection of the Big Winner

– ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE BIG WINNER: The overall winner will be announced on the week of May 17th.

 

5. Principles of content creation.

Videos can be funny, friendly, creative, but most importantly they should be elegant and professional and comply with the rules defined below.

The Organizer reserves the right to change the name of the cocktail if it is deemed inappropriate, not in accordance with the policy regulations on alcohol and the image of the Organizing Companies. No prior agreement will be required.

The bartenders will not be allowed to contact the Organizer except for specific questions related to the contest, technical aspects about the videos and the preparation of the cocktails.

The bartenders will be able to count on the support of David Boileau to answer specific questions about the preparation of the cocktails, use of ingredients, by e-mail.

SPIRITS HUNTERS will be able to answer technical questions on publishing and video creation via Instagram @spiritshunters_mag

It is forbidden:

– To use ingredients/tools containing tobacco, any type of drug or psychotropic ingredients in the creation of your digital content;

– To use people under the legal drinking age and to represent illegal, irresponsible or immoderate consumption;

– Include any person who is using;

– To associate in any way whatsoever the videos, photos:

*with acts of bravado, dangerous or antisocial;

*sex or sexual performance;

*religion.

– References to stronger mental or physical abilities;

– Showing and/or quoting brands, of any product.

 

6. The Jury

The jury includes experts in mixology and cognac, professionals in the industry.

 

7.Selection of winners

After viewing the videos received each week, the jury will select the most outstanding cocktail tutorial video.

The jury will judge the contestants according to:

– The presentation of the cocktail,

– The ingredients,

– Creativity,

– Professionalism,

– Compliance with the rules.

 

-7.1 Selection of the weekly winner:                  

The Organizers will announce the winner of the week every Monday evening (for example: the winners of the first week of the contest – videos received from Monday 6:00 am to Friday 5:00 pm – will be announced the following week on Monday. See contest Stage 1 dates above).

 

 7.2 Selection of the twenty (20) finalists for the grand finale

At the end of the six weeks of the first stage, the Grand Finale stage will begin. All participating bartenders will automatically be entered into the Grand Finale with the videos submitted in the first stage of the contest, but they will be invited to submit new videos or enhance previous cocktails, to increase their chances of becoming the Big Winner of the Competition.

Bartenders who did not participate during the previous six of the contest are welcome to participate in the Grand Finale as well for a chance to be selected among the 20 best videos, and eventually, become the Big Winner of the Cognac Bartender Contest UK.

This stage lasts 1 week.

 

7.3. Selection of the overall winner of the competition

Finally, the 20 finalists will be judged by the jury to select the Big Winner of the Cognac Bartender Contest UK.

 

8. Prize

Weekly winners: the best video of the week will be selected and the winning bartender will earn prize of one hundred British Pounds (£100.00).

The Big Winner of the COGNAC BARTENDER CONTEST UK will receive an endowment of eight hundred pounds (£800.00) from Spirits Hunters. The Big Winner will also be offered a 2-day stay in Cognac on behalf of the BNIC, on the date of his or her choice (excluding weekends) as soon as the sanitary conditions allows us to, including: reimbursement of travel expenses (within the limit of £440 including taxes), one night in a ** hotel, reimbursement of meals during the stay (within the limit of £180  in total), visits to cognac houses and/or producers, and a cognac tasting-discovery session.

*This stay is valid for one year from the date of attribution.

 

9. Delivery of the endowment

The weekly winners and the Big Winner of the COGNAC BARTENDER CONTEST – UK, will receive the prize via PayPal account or bank account within 10-30 working days after being informed. The winners will have to communicate by e-mail their banking information after having been informed that they have won.

 

10. Authorization to transfer rights

Participation in the competition implies the assignment of intellectual property rights to the BNIC and Spirits Hunters.

In this respect, each participant assigns to the BNIC, free of charge and on an exclusive basis:

– All rights of reproduction and representation of the identification elements of the cocktails and creations presented within the framework of the competition, including names, compositions, visual and textual content (hereinafter “the Contents”);

– These rights concern the right to fix, digitize, reproduce, copy, record, edit, represent, broadcast the Contents, in whole or in part, in all formats, without limitation of number, by all means and on all digital media allowing them to be communicated to the public, in particular via the Organizer’s social networks and communication media.

The Assignment is granted for any use and distribution of the Contents related to the institutional activity of promoting Cognac, excluding any advertising and commercial activity. The Assignment is granted for the entire world, and for the entire legal term of copyright protection, in accordance with French and foreign legislation and international conventions, both current and future, including any extensions that may be made to this term.

The BNIC undertakes to respect the moral rights of the authors of the Contents, in particular by affixing the following copyright notice: ” © BNIC / Name of the author “. Any use of the Contents must systematically be accompanied by this mention.

 

11. Guarantees

Each participant guarantees the Organizer:

– That the Contents are entirely original and that they do not constitute a counterfeit of a pre-existing creation;

– That he or she has not introduced into his or her work any reminiscence or resemblance that could violate the rights of a third party.

 

Each participant also guarantees the Organizer:

– Against any action, claim, demand, eviction whatsoever, on the part of any person invoking an intellectual property right that the Contents would have infringed.

Consequently, each participant undertakes to make his personal case of any claim and/or procedure formulated against the Organizer which would be directly or indirectly related to these Contents, as well as to take charge of the expenses of any nature to ensure his defense, including the lawyer’s fees.

 

12. Personal data

Your personal data (surname, first name, age, e-mail address, bar, city, Instagram account) are processed by the Company Spirits Hunters, which technically manages the competition, acting as recipient and data controller.

The personal data collected is mandatory. If you do not provide the required data, you will not be able to participate in the Contest.

This data is exclusively intended for the Organizer for the sole purpose of taking into account your participation in the Contest, managing the winners, and awarding the prizes.

The data collected will be kept until the winners have been designated and then destroyed.

Spirits Hunters is bound by professional secrecy with regard to this data, and undertakes to ensure that none of the personal information you have provided will be transferred or transmitted in any way whatsoever to third parties.

In accordance with the European Regulation 2016/679 of April 27, 2016 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data, any participant has a right of access and rectification to the information concerning him/her, as well as a right of opposition, the right to limit the processing and the right to erase it within the framework permitted by the European Regulation.

13. Responsibility

Participation in the contest implies knowledge and acceptance of the characteristics and limitations of the Internet.

The Organizer declines any direct or indirect responsibility in case of misuse or incident during the contest, including (but not limited to) technical problems: network unavailability, malicious intervention, software or hardware malfunctions…

It is therefore the responsibility of each participant to take all appropriate measures to protect his or her own data and/or software stored on his or her computer equipment against any attack.

 

14. Filing of the rules

The present regulations are filed with DEPOT JEUX, 320 rue Saint Honoré, 75001 Paris.

 

15. Application of the regulation

The conduct of the contest was drawn up in accordance with French law.

Any disputed interpretation of the rules will be decided by the Organizer.

Any fraud or non-compliance with the rules may result in the exclusion of its author from the contest, the Organizer reserves the right to take legal action against him/her.

 

COGNAC BARTENDER CONTEST UK – SUBSCRIPTION FORM

 

Must be 21 years or older to participate.
*If you are a bartender based in the UK but due to the current situation regarding Covid-19 you are abroad and temporarily unable to return to the United Kingdom, but can prove that you work for a bar based in the UK, you are allowed to participate in the Cognac Bartender Contest UK. Please indicate both countries if the situation applies.
Select multiple choices ONLY if you intend to participate with different cocktails. You can submit one or more cocktail video tutorials per week, cocktails need to be different in order to qualify each week. Remember, if any of the cocktail tutorial you send for weeks 1-6 is/are validated, the selected video(s) are retained for the finals stage, but you are free to submit new videos for the finals too.
If your cocktail is ready for the competition, add the written recipe of the cocktail with all the ingredients and mention the category of the cognac used (VS, V.S.O.P, X.O), without mentioning the brand of the cognac or of any other ingredient.
Competition open to over 21s only.
