New aging mention for Hennessy cognac approved by the INAO

After the restriction to introduce Hennessy’s XXO cognac on the market last December, the brand has finally seen its XXO mention approved for the sale of cognac XXO Cognac hors d’âge (out of age).

The sale of XXO Cognac hors d’âge was prevented by the Direction régionale des entreprises, de la concurrence, de la consommation, du travail et de l’emploi (Direccte) of the French region Nouvelle-Aquitaine. According to Direccte, XXO was liable to mislead the consumer; moreover, it was not officially mentioned in the cognac ageing designations. Taking into account that the mention XO means extra old, XXO was supposed to represent a cognac whose youngest brandy in the blend is 14 years old.

At the request of the Cognac denomination to the Institut national d’origine et de qualité (INAO), the mention of ageing XXO could be included in the catalogue. Good news for lovers of Hennessy cognac and for tasting this exceptional blend of the oldest brandies.
