Via Marca.com | Borja Goikoetxea is crowned best bartender of the eighth edition of the World Class Competition Spain 2019.

Barcelona’s Paradiso bar is proud. Its batender Borja Goikoetxea has won the award for Best Bartender of Spain 2019 among ten finalists.

The bartenders worked during five hours of tension, to show who had what it took to represent Spain in the world of mixology and bartending.

The judges of this year’s World Class Spain were former winners of the competition. Among them, David Ríos (Best Bartender of the World 2013), Borja Cortina (Best Bartender of Spain 2015), Daniel Cordoni, winner 2018.

Furthermore, this final edition of World Class Spain 2019 simultaneously selected the finalist from Portugal. José Mendes of The Royal Cocktail Club will represent Portugal this year in Scotland.

The competition consisted of three rounds:

Speed Round: creation of 6 cocktails in 8 minutes.
Blind Tasting: blind tasting used to demonstrate bartenders’ taste and smell skills.
Mistery Box: preparation of a creative cocktail with surprise ingredients contained in this mysterious box.

The next step for Borja Goikoetxea

It is now Goikoetxea’s turn to represent his country at the 2019 World Class Competition final in Glasgow in September.

The final of Diageo World Class 2019 will take place in Scotland, in the city of Glasgow. This eleventh edition of the World Class is expected to attract over 10,000 participants from around the world, each of whom will attempt to follow in the footsteps of the 2018 World Class Bartender of the Year, Orlando Marzo (Australia).
