Covid 19: bar closures and restrictions in Brussels, Glasgow, Edinburgh…

The cities of Brussels, Glasgow and Edinburgh seek to stop the spread of Covid-19 by closing bars and cafes.

Here is a summary of the closure of bars and cafes in different cities in Europe:

Brussels

Bars and cafés will be closed from today for one month (until 8 November) throughout the Brussels region. The authorities seek to stop the accelerated spread of the virus. The consumption of alcohol in public spaces is also forbidden in 19 communes of the region. The restaurants, on the other hand, remain open, a measure very similar to that applied in France where bars and cafes closed on Tuesday for two weeks in Paris and its suburbs. However, the restaurants remain open but with strict measures on alcohol consumption.

Meanwhile, In other parts of the country, bars will have to close their doors at 11:00 pm.

Glasgow and Edinburgh

The authorities ordered the closure of bars and pubs in the two main cities of Scotland: Glasgow and Edinburgh. In other cities, the capacity is limited. “Pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes will be allowed to serve indoors from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm but no more alcoholic beverages will be served,” explained the Scottish Prime Minister. In contrast, hotel restaurants may serve after 6:00 pm but only for residents and non-alcoholic beverages.

The Scottish Prime Minister justified these measures with the aim of preventing the virus from “spiraling out of control” at the end of the month.
