Flor de Caña Rum held the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge competition
The renowned Nicaraguan rum brand Flor de Caña organizes the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge in Colombia, to highlight proposals that collaborate with the preservation of the planet’s resources. In the competition, Colombian cocktail bartenders participated, proposing their environmentally compatible alternatives.
According to KienyKe, Djhair Barrientos, Flor de Caña brand ambassador in Colombia, comments “The Sustainable Cocktail Challenge is a challenge that seeks sustainability ideas. Inspired by sustainable, environmental movements that support the sustainable economy. Also, all these modern concepts that are very important for the future of the world in general“.
Flor de Caña rum is the only ecological rum made from 100% renewable energy. In addition, there is no added sugar.
The pre-event round selected 12 bartenders, followed by 8 contenders from various regions of Colombia. The semifinal happened on December 3. Here six people made it to the second round and reach the final.
For the finals, the competition brought together three high standard judges. We found Catalina Rugeles, sommelier; Adriana Laguna, brand ambassado; David Rodríguez, the only bartender certified with sustainability. Plus, to count with the president of the Colombian Bartenders Association. The three participants of the final showed great potential in this round of speed cocktails.
The winner of the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge is Carlos Sierra. He is a native of the city of Pereira, but who lives in Cartagena. Thanks to his victory, he will tour several cities to present his proposal for environmental cocktails.
The competition also takes place in other countries of the world such as Spain, France, Mexico, Australia, Chile, among others.
