IZO: A new selection of agave-based spirits
Natural, handmade, IZO Agave Spirits, founded by Gaston Martinez (a native of Mexico) offers a premium agave spirit with a lot of flavor. IZO is sustainably produced in the rural area of Durango following centuries of tradition.
The brand previously won awards for its Mezcal Joven, and now delights us with four varieties:
- IZO Mezcal Reposado: created with wild agave hearts cooked slowly on volcanic rock. It offers a velvety, subtly smoky flavor, perfect for sipping. This reposado ages for at least two months in American oak barrels. On the nose, we feel a soft aroma of banana and green apples, with notes of warm vanilla and rich nuts.
- IZO Mezcal Ensamble: a blend of Cenizo and Lamparillo agaves grown in nature in the heights of Durango, Mexico. Earthy, full-bodied taste with a deliciously fruity finish.
- IZO Sotol: distilled from the sotol plant, slowly roasted. It matures for more than 15 years and gives only one bottle per plant. We find heart notes of the plant (pineapples), a unique rarity!
- IZO 100% Agave Tequila Extra Cristalino Añejo: highlights the unique flavor of the Blue Agave from the state of Jalisco. This tequila ages for 3 years in wooden barrels that provide complexity to the flavor. Its spirit is then filtered with charcoal to create a bright white finish.
This month IZO proposes a cocktail called MARGARIZO, inspired by the Margarita. It has a classic taste, acid and subtly smoked.
60 ml IZO Mezcal
1 green lemon, squeezed
15 ml of Triple Sec
Rim with salt and garnish with lemon.
