What is the secret to the best Old Fashioned? Besides bourbon, sugar, and bitters, there’s one other ingredient that will make your Old Fashioned the best it can be: ice! Since a single large ice cube has less surface area than a large number of small cubes, the ice will melt more slowly, preventing your drink from getting watered down too quickly. To finish the drink, we can add a maraschino cherry and orange zest, but feel free to omit them if you’re a purist.
